January 14 - An Interview with FIFI LARUE FIFI LARUE has had a busy month. He's taken a pounding on
the Metal Sludge Gossip Boards, but was still kind enough
to talk to me. I'll give him credit - where most people would run and hide from another acid-witted metalhead
faux writer like me, he was cool enough to not only send back the questions within 24 hours, but also included some pics.
Love him or hate him, you know his name. Is he the real deal, a total poser, or
a brilliant Andy Kaufman-esque heavy metal performance artist who's actually laughing at us? Read his answers and decide for yourself in the
current installment of Famous Last Words with FIFI LARUE:
1) When and where did you last play a live show? When and where will upcoming shows occur?
our last two show's where 5 to 6 months ago at 14 below in Santa Monica secound
billed with Thunderstruck all female tribute band, the place was pack with both my fan's and theirs...great
show for us! also, we did a Motorcycle charity bike ride show in whittier, Calif at Club Ibiza but, the
promoter had problem's with the city so the show didn't go as planned... our up-incoming show's will be at
the whisky a go go or the Keyclub in March or April upon the completion of our Cd'.
2) Would you agree that the very definition of "insanity" would be "doing the same
thing repeatedly but expecting different results"? With that said, how many years have you been playing the Sunset Strip?
When I was in Dizzy Bitch I joined somewhere around 1983 and it ended in 1990 so,
yes we played alot at the Troubadour and other surrounding Club's and as FIFI LARUE will do play alot at
the Keyclub and Whisky.
3) You own your own recording studio equipment and have a website.
Why has it taken so long for you to put out a cd when you could record,
duplicate,
and sell it independently at a fraction of the cost, all online, without
record company interference?
I recently purchased my recording studio from one of my Rockstar friends and thank's
to him and his kindness... I do have the capability of doing almost anything now, even producing other
bands...but, I have several labels intrested in my Cd' so, if I can get my Cd' out on a label I don't
need to penny pinch it out on my own! I have in the past recorded cheeze demo's and put them out on my
own just to get the vibe out! but, that's all they where cheeze demo's and most of the the musician's on
it where cheeze too, So, now I have the opportunity to finish-up! a great recording and submit it to a
label and that's what I'am doing...
4) When will it be available in record stores?
I'am about 85 percent done with the recording... I might have a couple of other
intested Rockstar's who might want to record on it so, I might have to do some more digital editing on
it! before it go's to mastering it! so, all in all look for it something in June or July in store's or even sooner?
5) It's one thing to sing "Everybody wants a piece of me". It's another
thing to actually
be able to deliver one to everybody. Can't you get on a treadmill or
something?
My weight is around 225 to 230 right now! but, I've seen the pic's that they posted
on the thread! hey look pic's can be very deceiving at time's I don't accually look that heavy! even thou'
I'am Heavy Metal. I will be losing some weight since it's become such an issue now! but, note when I was in
Dizzy Bitch I got down to about 145' and that was because, of the whole Rockstar thing! I guess, I'll
have to do the Rockstar thing again! Ha!
6) After getting slammed on Metal Sludge, do you still think that any
publicity is
good publicity?
Of course, if they slam people like Paul Stanley and Gene Simmon's I guess I'am
in a category of greatness! or maybe in a class all my own?
7) What's the largest crowd you've ever performed in front of, and when was
it?
I've played in a pack house at the Water's club in San Pedro when Dizzy Bitch
we played with Sweet Savage it was sold out! , also, when we played at Fender's Ballroom with Hurricane
and another show with Racer X both night's where also, packed. And with FIFI LARUE I played a pack show
with W.A.S.P. at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, and another show with Ratt at the Boogie in Anahiem.
Also, Did some show's at The KeyClub with L.A. Gun's and Faster Pussycat which where all pretty full...
but, one show I did with Glamnation at The El Rey theatre was a really packed house... so, as far as
number's go you'd have to look for the venue's to see how many people they can hold?
8) For the most part, people don't care about KISS, Alice Cooper, WASP, or
King Diamond anymore. What makes your act both different from what they
did 20+ years ago, AND relevant to an apathetic musical audience today?
The kids today coming out of junior high and high school still listen to heavy
metal and I know from what I'am told by other's and alot of kids come to my web-site from word of
mouth and ask for Cd's and T-shirt's... So, I'am working on the Cd' but, the shirt's are out there
promoting FIFI LARUE I even have sticker's and guitar pic's making there way to the youth of today!
and I even give them my old cheeze demo's just to get FIFI LARUE out there...
9) Where's a better place to get stage clothes, Rite Aid's post-Halloween
sale or
Spencer's clearance rack?
I get most of my stuff from the Halloween Club! I even have a account there...
10) What are you listening to these days?
I don't listen to the Cookie Monster Crap!!! but, I do listen to KISS, ALICE
COOPER Stuff still cuz' if it's still come's out from them it dosen't die...Motley Crue Concert was a
great show! ("Kinda's like what I will be doing once I get some backing to my show's") but, their
song's are just not was they use to be...
11) If you could erase one year of your life and replace it with one year of
someone else's, which year would you erase, which one would you steal, and
why?
My First year when I was born, I'd replace it with Jesus!!! imagine just
being "Great" at the beginning of your Life? I think I was dropped acouple of time's at birth
that's why I'am FIFI LARUE not STRYPER
12) Why did Dizzy Bitch call it a day?
The singer kept producing children that he couldn' afford with different woman and
doing drug's and stuff but, the biggest thing with my departure was when he told me that I wouldn't make
it without him! and the next time I would see him he will be on the cover of "Bam" magazine'. Funny that
magazine dosen't exsist's anymore and he never made it to the cover!
13) Why did you pick a soft-sounding stage name, FIFI LARUE, when your
current stage act is considerably
darker and more sinister?
The name was picked by my friend and bassplayer Tymtation from Dizzy Bitch
He passed away several year's ago... So, In 1983 and he started calling me FIFI and I didn't want
to use it at first because of what I thought it ment? but, after a evening out at the Troubadour I was
approached by a beautiful Blonde girl and after I told her my name was FIFI I was kissing her all
night! so, I said to myself ' If that's all it take's to pick-up hot Chick's then I would deal
with being name FIFI LARUE
14) Do you think you could ever bury the hatchet with Jim Torgeson? And
would
you ever let him either play a track on your cd or promote one of your shows?
This Guy is the biggest joke beside's me! I haven't seen this guy since the
late 80's and all of a sudden he's think's he know's everything about me? but, your going to get
these kinda' people coming out of the wood's when you become something like I have! even my ex-guitar
player Richard Jame's is coming out on the thread this guy's is a "Balding school teacher who had
to go to Japan to get a Mail order Bride'! Do you think these people have anything to do with me now!
Of course not! they just see all the attention I'am getting and wish it would be happing to them!
15) Who's playing in your band now, and are they the same people who played
on the cd? If not, why is that?
on Vocal's FIFI LARUE, Guitar MARCUS SIN, Bass ANDY MONIC, Drums EL DIABLO,
keyboards LANEL ROXX everyone in my band is on the Cd' but, I also have special guest performing on it
too... Marcus Sin is a Graduate at Musicians Institute and everyone on this CD's are pro-musician's and
for my CD' to be my Debut' I don't see anything wrong in having special guests Rockstars on it! there my
friends why wouldn't I have them on it as well?
16) You've been playing the same scene that spawned hundreds of bands that
would go on to
fame and fortune. Who do you think would credit YOU as an influence, and
who might have
ripped YOU off?
Of Course I took something's from KISS and ALICE COOPER and even TWISTED SISTER
but, that my influence and I see bands like The Peppermint Creep's, Revlon Red or Dead? and other new
act's whom are obvious rip's from me...but, as long as everyone's doing it! it's keep's Heavy Metal Glam alive and well...
17) You're a drummer by trade. Why not just do all of the drum tracks
yourself?
Maybe in the future I might do something like recording myself on drums. but,
drumming is my past I have recording's from my past and now I want to record my own song's and
produce my own material and maybe produce other's in the near future...
18) When was your last band rehearsal?
about a month or so ago? but, everyone in my band already knows all the song's and we
even are working on new material but, we are all just waiting to finish-up the Cd and we will be getting
ready to do show's in March or April to promote the Cd' and new show!
19) There's are links on your website for merch, tour dates, etc, but they
aren't active.
Where can we go to get FIFI LARUE merchandise and current info?
Pretty soon, we will be up-dating the site soon! but, the label might want to have
something to do with the site... so the site is on hold right now! just don't forget where to go www.fifilarue.com
if people want Cd's and T-shirt's and stuff they usually E-mail me here at fifilarue1@yahoo.com it's on the
site as well...
20) Be honest - that whole Metal Sludge thing was a work, wasn't it? Did
you know in advance that
you were gonna be the "bad guy", and who was in on it from the beginning?
Here's your chance
to come clean - was there a plan to hype the cd and generate publicity by
posting as "metalhotgirl" and setting
yourself up like that? Do you think it worked?
I was sick with the Flu about two weeks ago and I was thinking of some way to promote
my Cd' on the Metal-Sludge Board but, I was banned from Metal-Sludge acouple of years ago for posting my show's!
on the their Board. So, I was over a girl house before I really got sick and told her to activate an account
for me and we used Metalhotgirl and a couple of other's so, when I got home I used it on my computer and started
the whole thread on my own. then came the Bashing from "Ugly Jim" and other's they just say that the user name's
where on one post each so, they figured it out that it must have been me! so, what I did what I did and it worked.
But, the funny thing is that other's started to go in as me as well like Fifi_Larue that's not me and so, then did
start wwwfifilaruecom and FIFILARUE for myself to link on instead of Metalhotgirl. But, I really don't have the
time to be on it now that I'am well and I have to finish recording. I'am also, in school for my third semester
of Recording engineering. So, I do have a little more of a life than most of you...Beside I'am FIFI LARUE I'am
more popular the Steve Rachelle whatever his name is? do you know I even out drew a show with Tuff when I played
with them acouple of year's ago...So, FIFI LARUE is just doing Fine and everything is working the way I planned it!
21) What would you say is your biggest success to date?
getting my song's air on "Joan of Arcadia" and "Hack" and "The Red Carpet" and even on
"Gene Simmon's Tongue Magazine" they used my song's for his documentary at the Keyclub it was shot by Show-time...
I was on Local lick's on KLOS and there waiting on the new Cd' too and a year ago I was on Frosty Hiedi
and Frank Halloween Special on 97.1 Fm
22) Can you see yourself doing the same "Gothic Killer Clown of Rock N Roll"
act in 10 years? Is there a point where you'll
ever just say, 'Screw it - I gave it my all, time to find another mountain
to climb'?
I'll do this till' I'am "Old" and maybe past the torch to someone... but, things aren't
finished yet for FIFI LARUE we will be doing two video's and I look forward for 2006 but, I will be doing alot
of producing...
23) Who wrote your bio on your website? And why aren't the bios for the
rest of the band up?
we will be up-dating the site soon, all focus is on finishing up the Cd' so, don't
worry we will get it up and running soon.
24) Any famous last words for a bunch of metalheads who might be reading?
FIFI LARUE is just trying to keep Heavy Metal going and will... with or without the support
of some people who are the one's who ruin it for everyone and the ones who try to bring down the house' are
usually the one's who are living in it?
So there you have it. Thanks to FIFI
LARUE for taking some time to talk with us. Visit his site, send him email, keep tabs on the bashing
he's still receiving at Metal Sludge, or just leave a comment for him here:
